Valley eyes free movie pass for seniors

AN ORDINANCE granting free movie privilege for senior citizens from the Municipality of La Trinidad in selected cinemas is being proposed in the municipal council.

Known as the Senior Citizens Free Movie Privilege Ordinance of La Trinidad, the proposed measure authored by Councilor Roderick Awingan hurdled its first reading and scheduled a public

hearing on October 17 to hear suggestions and sentiments from the public regarding the proposed ordinance.

Awingan said the municipality intends to extend their benefits and privileges by granting free admission to cinemas or movie houses during certain days of the week to make life more enjoyable for senior citizens in their twilight years.

The alderman added senior citizens’ contribution to the society cannot be equated with a particular price, their knowledge being passed on to the countless students, the veterans who have fought for the country’s freedom , and such other irreplaceable impacts to this generation all stand as a lasting testimony of’ their precious legacy.

The ordinance will benefit all senior citizens who are bona fide residents of the valley and will be entitled to avail free movie in selected cinemas once a month during a designated day.

Only senior citizens with Senior Citizens Identification Card (SCIC) duly signed by the authorized signatories and issued by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of the town are entitled to free admission.

Upon the approval of the measure, La Trinidad through its mayor will enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the selected movie houses or cinemas, theatre owner’s operators engaging into the said business allowing qualified senior citizens of La Trinidad for free movie passage in their preferred cinema.

Awingan assigned the Municipal Social Welfare and Division Office (MWSDO) of La Trinidad to provide and implement rules and regulations for the effective implementation of the local ordinance.
