Sun.Star Baguio

The beginning of an artist

-

LAST August 23 to 25, the Cordillera School of Digital Arts, Inc. (CSDA) joined a student art fair entitled “It's Art for Everyone”, where they showcased mixed medium of artwork. CSDA's objective was to further the awareness and presence of arts in Baguio City through animation and traditional arts. Schools who offered art programs around Baguio participated as well. The event mainly highlighted the artists’ talents; in hopes to present and sell their artworks.

Some of our very own recent graduates attended, namely: Ms. Bea Ventura, Ms. Jennifer Lecanda, Mr. Jomark Marcelo, and former on-the-job trainee (OJT), Ms. Klarisse Medina. Beautiful artworks by Mr. Marcelo and Ms. Medina were exhibited to be sold to the mall goers, art enthusiasts, and interested individuals. To add, Mr. Marcelo, Ms. Ventura, and Ms. Lecanda did portraiture and caricature, enthusiastically sketching for those who wanted it a souvenir. Also, the makers of Quiddity (NCIII batch 2016) were present, as well as director Ms. Nanica Cudal and animator Ms. Joan Advincula. The creators were able to get a good amount of exposure when the press interviewed them regarding their animation short, Quiddity, a 2D animation.

It is important to keep in mind that events such as these promote the artistic talents and skills of an artist – whether amateur or professional. Art exhibits present their usually lesser-seen works to an audience, and therefore the artist can gain confidence, get affirmation of their talents, and accept constructive criticism from other parties, thus helping them improve overall. More importantly, they create a network with other artists, and there could possibly build a community of people who can support and encourage them in their colorful journey as an artist.

We hope to see you all in the next event!
