- Sun*Star Reporter Maria Elena Catajan

COUNCILOR Leandro Yangot wants to make venues open to the elderly and the disabled.

The proposed measure mandates barangay center and government institutions to prioritize senior citizens as well as persons with disabilities on the use of government managed facilities.

The facilities include multi - purpose halls and covered courts among others.

The proposed law says there are various organized senior citizens associations as well as PWD groups hold their activities and they usually prefer utilizing government managed facilities such as multipurpose halls, covered courts in the conduct of activities considering the discounts and privileges they can avail of. However, there are instances when they are denied opportunity to utilize these facilities because the facility has already

been reserved for other activities of other groups.

Yangot said the proposed law is for the improvement and well being of the elderly and persons with disability to assure their full participation in society as integral parts of society.

The alderman said the law, if approved will encourage communities the seniors and persons with disabilities live in to actively care for them, in turn giving the next generation values to continue.
