Cordillera cops score against illegal gambling

CORDILLERA police continue to intensify its anti – illegal gambling drive following the arrest of several individual­s in the region.

Police Regional Office - Cordillera regional director Francis Elmo Sarona recently ordered the continuous and massive crackdown against illegal gambling in the region while seeking the help of the community. Authoritie­s arrest Noemi Leal Cam-ed, 34, native of Bugang, Sagada, Mountain Province and a resident of Alemars, Irisan, Baguio City; Marjorie Gib Sofronio, 55, native of Mankayan, Benguet and a resident of Camp 8, Baguio City; Bernardo Corpuz Jacinto, 63, native of Mangino, Gapan, Nueva Ecija, and a resident at Bayo Apartment, Panta Street, San Vicente, Baguio City; and Joseph Yadis Jimenez, 44, businessma­n, native of Mt. Data, Bauko Mountain Province, and a resident of Panta Street, San Vicente, Baguio City.

The arrest was done inside the Bayo Apartment, Panta Street, San Vicente midnight of September 22.

During the operation, personnel of Police Station 8 was able to confiscate 52 pieces of playing cards, P1,375 cash bets , one table and six monobloc chairs.

The suspects and confiscate­d items are now under the custody of the police while appropriat­e charges were filed against them in court.

“The support and cooperatio­n of the public to report all gamblers and financiers conducting illegal gambling activities to the police and not to patronize illegal numbers games such as jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling will hopefully be eradicated,” Sarona said.
