- Maria Elena Catajan Sun*Star Reporter

Mayor Mauricio Domogan is batting for the registration of all Muslim and foreign students to the Baguio City Police Office to pacify doubts and fears.

Domogan said in a meeting with the Muslim community this week, he asked for the submission of profiles of all students in the city.

“Do not take this negatively, if you have nothing to hide this is an opportunity for you, let us cooperate and register.”

The profiles will be submitted to the Baguio City Police Office director Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles to keep and study in a bid to erase any doubts and cast out fears brought

about by talks of extremism teachings in the city.

The chief executive said the profiles being asked for will not be soley from the Muslim community but all foreign students here so as not to single out anyone and avoid speculations.

“We will ask all to submit, Muslims, Koreans and all nationalities.”

Domogan said a meeting with National Commission for Muslim Filipinos in Baguio head Abdullah Macarimpas assured there are no extremist teaching as he pledged full cooperation with the government.

Previously, BCPO asked Muslim leaders in the city engaged in the operation of schools which focuses on Islamic teachings to undergo regulation to allay doubts of alleged propagation of Muslim extremism stressing the need for licensing and compliance with the requirements.

In a presentation of the National Commission for Filipino Muslims and the Anti Terrorism Council during the Regional Peace and Order Council meeting in Apayao, it alleged some of the graduates of these learning institutions have been involved in illegal acts in Zamboanga City.

Domogan said the information was presented based on intelligence data gathered which pointed to two possible institutions in the city under observation.

The chief executive also said the spat between Muslim leaders is an issue that is beyond the local government saying leaders are fighting among themselves and should not affect the city.

“We have proven for a long time that we do not discriminate, we are a mixed people.”
