Seniors join Elderly summit
More than 200 senior citizens from the city and surrounding areas participated in the Elderly Summit 2017 held Wednesday at the City Hall multi-purpose hall with the theme, “Healthy Mind and Body for Healthy Ageing”.
The activity is part of the city’s Elderly Month Celebration and facilitated by the city social welfare and development office under Betty Fangasan and the city council’s committee on social services, women and urban poor chaired by Councilor Lilia Farinas.
Lectures were held on topics including “Mental well-being, brain health and mind-body connections supporting healthy ageing” by Dr. Dandeo Halog of the Health Services Office and “Bridging the gap of academics, decision makers and community to learn about and discuss topics relevant to senior citizens’ health and social service professionals, policy makers, government officials and innovators in the field of mental health and well-being” by Dr. Amparo Rimas of the Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative.
Messages were delivered by Vice-Mayor Edison Bilog, councilors Elaine Sembrano, Benny Bomogao,
Arthur Allad-iw and Joel Alangsab including Soledad Go on behalf of Representative Mark Go who lauded contributions of senior citizens to the development and progress of society and encouraged them to continue teaching and molding future generations with the wisdom they acquired through the years.
Participants also wrote down their suggestions, solutions or proposals on issues affecting the elderly to be taken into consideration in the crafting of laws by the city council.
