Senior citizens burial assistance up in LT

Assistance of families left behind after the death of senior citizens is being passed.

Authored by Councilor Roderick Awingan, the proposed local ordinance intends for the municipali­ty to express its deepest appreciati­on to the valuable contributi­on of the senior citizens as well as it intends to provide assistance to the bereaved families.

The bereaved family or any senior citizen organizati­on may request for the release of burial assistance to any of its deceased member through the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) who shall submit it to the Municipal Social Welfare Developmen­t Office (MSWDO) Officer for documentat­ion and thereafter, release of the burial assistance.

The implementa­tion of the ordinance appropriat­ed annually under the MSDWO of the municipali­ty.

The local law entails qualificat­ion requiremen­ts in order for the burial assistance be release the deceased senior citizen must first meet the following qualificat­ions: (a) De-

ceased senior citizen must be a bona fide resident of the municipali­ty of La Trinidad. (b) Deceased senior citizen must be a member of the barangay or the municipal senior citizen associatio­n. (c) Certificat­ion from punong barangay where the deceased senior citizen resides and or an endorsemen­t from the president of the Barangay Senior Citizen Associatio­n. In case, the deceased senior citizen is not a member of the Senior Citizen Federation but is a bona fide resident of the municipali­ty.

The proposed law will have a public hearing.
