Baguio Water District eyes mobile bill payment

- Lauren Alimondo Sun*Star Baguio

THE BAGUIO Water District (BWD) seeks to adopt a mobile payment system to provide new convenience to clients.

BWD general manager Salvador Royeca said based on actual demand from their clients and customers there is a need to adapt to new technologies.

“The Baguio Water District will be adapting that [mobile payment] kind of scheme, we have our website, we need to have some sort of information education and campaign of course and then actually we also conduct orientation to our customers so we inform the customers of these evolutions that are taking place.”

Royeca added “We determine how far people are willing to adapt scheme or payment of their water bills but definitely of course a lot of our customers are asking for this kind of scheme.”

As the general manager of BWD as of May 2013, he was

asked by the board of directors to devise his goals for the BWD in the next 5-10 years.

The BWD aims to develop paperless transactions and to be techno savvy in operations.

Royeca said “People who are paying their bills could pay for their convenience rather than paying taxi fare or going to the office [BWD]. People nowadays are looking and want some sort of convenience in their part, they are all busy.”

The BWD has 41,000 clients and collection centers at its main office, Abanao Square, SM City Baguio, Land Bank of the Philippines and EC pay at selected 7/11 branches and Savemore supermarket and recently the Development Bank of the Philippines centers.
