Cordi crime reduced by 33%

CORDILLERA Director Police Chief Superinten­dent Elmo Francis Sarona lauded the police force for achieving a 33% crime reduction.

"Cordillera­s enhanced police operations have led to the arrest of various individual­s particular­ly those wanted by the law, those involved in having loose firearms, illegal logging and gambling", the General said.

For internal security operations and counter terrorism, Cordillera cops arrested 12 communist terrorists while 134 voluntaril­y surrendere­d to which a significan­t capture was made against 2 high ranking members of the New People's Army with a

P5.2 million bounty.

On the fight against illegal drugs Sarona said "Since the implementa­tion of Project Double Barrel starting July 16,2017 to present, PRO-COR together with the Regional Drug Enforcemen­t Agency have identified a total of 1177 barangays involved with the drug menace with 816 drug affected, 808 declared as drug affected, while 808 are drug cleared and 8 still affected, and which represents 1% of the total no. off affected barangays".

21,241 drug personalit­ies were identified with 6 listed as remaining targets.

Sarona said "The total cost of illegal drugs confiscate­d and destroyed in the region amounted to P8.73 billion, highlighte­d with the 1.9 billion peso shabu and parapherna­lia found in Sta. Marcela, Apayao and the destructio­n of marijuana plantation­s in Tinglayan, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Benguet.”

Sarona reported no policemen were found to be positive on drug use based on random drug tests.

"On the program of riding the organizati­on of scalawags, 125 persons are now subject to administra­tive cases, 26 dismissed, 1 demotion, 12 suspended, 8 reprimande­d, and 9 transferre­d to ARMM", the Director stated.

In its latest index and non-index crime statistics, the region noted a decrease by 59.51%, and 25.96%.

As of January to August of this year, it recorded a decrease in crime incidents from 9,207 to 3,404 compared to that of last year.

Sarona also noted the loss of 4 police operatives serving warrants of arrest to the top most wanted personalit­y nationwide in Lubuagan town in Kalinga, February.
