P350M eyed for Valley dumpsite

A possible grant from the Asian Developmen­t Bank (ADB) is up for the Alno Engineered Sanitary Landfill.

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda said the municipali­ty has applied for a P350M grant in the hopes to complete the Alno ESL.

The grant will enable the town to accommodat­e additional volume of biowaste, further purchase of equipment are included such as two skid loaders, two rapid composters and four shredders.

The ADB will shoulder P220 million while the municipali­ty is expected to contribute of P95 million while the national government will also have to pitch in with

a 35 million.

Municipal Environmen­t and Natural Resources (MENRO) Arthur Pedro said the ADB had a consultati­on with the stakeholde­rs composed of council elders and Indigenous People to discuss possible work once the project pushes through in Alno.

Total cost of the project for Cell 4 of the Alno ESL is broken down as follows; PP217. 36 million base costs for solid waste collection, sanitary landfill facility, materials recovery facilities compost facility; a P10.30 million access road; a P36.61 million land acquisitio­n and resettleme­nt; a P48. 38 million physical and price contingenc­ies and a P34.55 million in taxes.

If granted the project will purchase waste collection vehicles including 10 mini-dump trucks; 500 composting bins will also be secured with 120-liter capacity to be utilized as storage for home composting.

The grant will also see to the rehabilita­tion of the access road to the Alno ESL spanning 750 meters to qualify as an all-weather road, passable even during the rainy season.

The entire population of the Valley will benefit from the Solid Waste Management service improvemen­t.
