DA-CAR conducts regulatory consultati­on in Benguet

DEPARTMENT of Agricultur­e- Cordillera Administra­tive Region (DA-CAR) conducted a forum on regulatory policies and concerns affecting crops, livestock and postharves­t last October 20, 2017 at the DA Conference Hall, DA-CAR, BPI Compound, Baguio City.

The activity was spearheade­d by the Regulatory Division. Among the participan­ts who attended the activity were Agricultur­al Technician and Veterinari­ans from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Benguet, Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), City Veterinary Office (CVO) of Baguio City, and Private Practition­ers.

Dr. Anthony D. Bantog, Chief of Regulatory Division welcomed the participan­ts and said that understand­ing the nation’s regulatory laws are important in all aspects of production, processing and marketing. He added that the importance of these laws is to ensure the quality of products in the market.

Representa­tives from DA-CAR Regulatory Division discussed topics the Food Safety Act of 2013, among others.

Food safety was one of the concerns during the forum, especially this relates to product competitiv­eness in the ASEAN. The certificat­ion and standardiz­ation of GAP and GAHP were establishe­d to promote good quality products and protect the health of the people.

“Not just only the safety of the consumer but also the producer”, said Dr. Bantog during the discussion in GAP, GAHP and the Republic Act 10611 (Food Safety Act).

Among other topics presented were Good Agricultur­al Practices (GAP), Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP), Republic Act 1556 (Livestock and Poulty Feeds Act), Republic Act 8485 (Animal Welfare Act), Republic Act 3720 (Food, Drugs and Devices and Cosmetics Act), and the Administra­tive Order No. 08.
