- The Path JAYSON VICENTE

PHILIPPINE sports community is once again on their toes as everyone is given different mandates in preparation for the hosting of the 2019 SEA Games. From the moment the news came up, until the formal announcement, acceptance and turnover of the SEA Games flag to the Philippines, the capability of the country is being questioned.

Critics, not only from the next host country have hesitations on how the Philippines would go about the necessities of the SEA Games.

Even people from Davao, the rumored venue of the prestigious Games have questions about the hosting,

particularly on the facilities to be used and where would the athletes be housed.

The richness of culture and the beauty of the place cannot be questioned as it can proudly host any foreign contingent of what Davao has to offer, but when it comes to the facilities, many are having hesitations and are questioning if the Philippines, particularly Davao, is ready for the 2019 SEA Games.

Critics are getting louder and louder as the event is nearing. Even with more than a year left to prepare or even two years, it will not be enough for the preparations considering the state of the facilities or the lack of it, but those tasks are determined to leave no stones unturned just to make it happen.

Everyone is optimistic that when “the day comes” all things will fall into place, with President Rodrigo Duterte mandating his trusted people to look into the immediate actions on the needs of the SEA Games, tasking one of his trusted Under Secretary from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) taking the lead.

The hosting of the 2019 SEA Games will be prestige, as well as a big challenge not only for Philippine sports but also the government, as all sectors must have their own important contribution to make it happen and turn it into a successful feat.
