Crime cases in Benguet down

THE Benguet Provincial Police Office recorded a 17.44% increase in the number of crimes solved in 2017.

Deputy for Operations and Planning Police Chief Inspector Rodolfo Serran said "As compared to the 65.48% crime solution of Benguet PPO in 2016, this year garnered 48.94%, or 336 crime incidents solved in 2017 as compared to the 662 cases of last year"

Serran attributed the decrease in crimes to an enhanced management system BPPO applied under the Geographic­al Informatio­n System to readily respond to crimes happening in the province.

The Deputy explained "Aside from the GIS, the strict implementa­tion of ordinances such us the curfew hours and the continuing engagement with the Barangay officials have led to the decrease in crimes in the province and a higher solution rate wherein suspects that were arrested have been filed with the necessary cases and a have been placed in jail".

The number of rape cases, BPPO registered 37 cases in 2016 while only 37 cases were reported from January to September of this year.

Aside from the reduction of the crime volume, the 700 strong BPPO continues to monitor the possible presence of insurgents particular­ly Kabayan Benguet-Tinoc Ifugao area, and the Manakayan-Ilocos Sur area headed by their Combat Patrol Operations.

"Although we are lacking in manpower, BPPO continues to maintain the 75% strength visibility at the headquarte­rs and police stations of the province for four times a day", Serran added.

BPPO also notes the effective strategies and Police management it employs to reduce the number of crimes in Benguet.
