Flowers ready for Undas 2017

BENGUET Provincial Agricultur­ist head Lolita Bentrez assured enough supply of cut-flowers in time for All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

“For the province of Benguet we are very glad there are no strong typhoon, hopefully this year ma surpass iyong supply in Manila and locally here in La Trinidad.”

A total of 2,767,252 production per dozen of cut- flowers in La Trinidad this year with Chrysanthe­mums having a total of 2,014,000 production per dozen followed by Roses (278,

312), Babies Breath (235,800), Aster (235, 800), Anthurium (74,800) and Statice (74,800).

Mainly cut-flower growers are from the eight barangays of Shilan, Tawang, Lubas, Ambiong, Beckel, Bahong, Alno and Alapan and a few from Puguis and Wangal.

Bentrez said cut flowers which are grown in La Trinidad considered as major growers of the local industry following Atok, Buguias, Kibugan, and some in the southern part of Benguet including Tuba, Tublay, and Itogon.

“We assure the public that we have lots of flowers,” Bentrez said.

La Trinidad Cut-flower and Ornamental Growers Associatio­n (LaTCOGA) President Any Colte said operations of the marketing of cut-flower products started October 26 until November 2. The flower marketing center includes all booth occupants managed and operated by registered and accredited barangay cut-flower and ornamental flowers associatio­n.

As of October 27 radus flower of AA class is sold at 100 -120 pesos per bundle (two dozens); medium size at P80 while short stems are sold at P50-P60.

Asters were priced at P50 to P60 pesos per bundle while roses are sold at P350 per bundle. While potted chrysanthe­mum flowers are sold ranging to P35 – P80.

Anthurium sold by s dozen is at P70-80 for large size, P50 for medium and P20 for small stems.

Shanias said expect an increase of prices of the cut-flowers to double during its peak starting October 31.
