MP holds food safety and sanitation seminar
THE Provincial MicroSmall and Medium Enterprises Development Council (PSMEDC), in coordination with the office of the Provincial Tourism, conducted a two-day seminar on Food Safety and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures at the Kidlaa Hotel and Restaurant, Samoki, October 24 and 25.
Over 60 business people catering to preparing foods and students of the Hotel and Restaurant management of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College here attended the seminar.
During the seminar, Jones Malwagay of the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) talked on Food Safety issues and concerns and Food Safety of 2013 otherwise known as Republic Act 10611, to ensure that food is safe and not cause harm to consumers in eateries and restaurants.
He talked about protecting the public from food and water borne illnesses in the Farm to Fork approach businesses, meaning from farm production to the table.
He also tackled the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), formulation of SSOP, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Rochelle Teelan Bayanes of the Food and Drugs Administration – Cordillera (FDA-CAR) summed up the Good Manufacturing Practices in the food preparation business, telling the audience that preparation of food is essential in the business.
