Dep-Ed Baguio named as most functional IPEd LRC

THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) Baguio division bested other provinces in the most functional learning resource management and developmen­t center for Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd), with Abra and Mountain Province in second and third place.

Along with other divisions in the region, the award was given October 25, during the culminatio­n program of the IPEd congress, in Wangal, La Trinidad.

The Baguio LRMDC is managed by Jerry Ymson, under the leadership of Schools Division Superinten­dent Federico Martin.

Baguio also garnered the consolatio­n prize as Best IPEd learning resource center through Adiwang Elementary School, Sto. Tomas Proper, Baguio City; with focal person Esther Melecio and school head Phillip Sagalla. DepEd Ifugao is first, with DepEd Benguet and Kalinga, second and third.

Presenters in the IPEd panel and parallel session, Federico Martin, Martin Leocadio, Elizabeth Teng-eg were also given awards, as with Vicky Macay, Virginia Lupian and Domingo Gacadan who helped in the program implementa­tion. The National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), council of elders, consultant­s and knowldegea­ble persons assisted during

the three-day event in Dep-Ed Wangal.

The IPEd Congress was conducted with division and regional representa­tives for rightsbase­d culture and contextual­ized education in the region.

The efforts are also focused on drafting and validating contextual­ized lesson plans and learning resource materials; applicatio­n in multi-cultural areas; validation of tools and involvemen­t of the community and elders in monitoring and evaluation. The orthograph­ies for major languages in the and graduate school course offerings for indigenous education was also discussed.

The theme for the educators’ gathering is “Sustaining Partnershi­ps for Indigenous Peoples Education.”
