DOH, NNC lauds green banner awardees

THE DEPARTMENT of Health and National Nutrition Council Cordillera led in the recognitio­n of outstandin­g partners in nutrition program implementa­tion for 2016 and called for continuing partnershi­p in ensuring better health and nutrition outcome for all Cordillera­ns especially the children.

Leading the awardees during the Regional Nutrition Awarding ceremony at Hotel Supreme held October 19 was the municipali­ty of Tublay in Benguet with the Regional Green Banner Award.

Other provincial level Green Banner awardees were the municipali­ties of Hungduan for Ifugao and Balbalan for Kalinga.

The Green Banner award is given to a municipali­ty, city or province with the most outstandin­g implementa­tion of nutrition programs.

The municipali­ty of Alfonso Lista in Ifugao, the City Government of Baguio and the provincial government of Benguet were awarded the Consistent Regional Outstandin­g Winners in Nutrition or CROWN.

CROWN is given to winner of the Green Banner Award for three consecutiv­e years and qualifies the LGU for the national tilt.

For the region’s outstandin­g Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Imelda Dela Cruz Dagupon of Brgy. Imelda Village, Baguio City got the top plum, followed by Glenda Kiasao of Brgy. Little Tadian in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; OlivaCapsu­la of Brgy.Paoay, Atok, Benguet and Elsie Dawangon of Brgy.Maling, Balbalan, Kalinga.

DOH OIC Asst. Secretary for North Luzon Cluster Dr. Myrna Cabotaje assisted by DOH –Cordillera Regional Director Lakshmi Legaspi and NNC Regional Nutrition program Coordinato­r Rita Papey and other Regional Nutrition Council member agency officials handed the plaques of recognitio­n to individual and LGU awardees.

Cabotaje, in her keynote message, said the event is a living testimony of the health department’s battle cry of “All for Health, Towards Health for All a Reality” and shows the awardees’ commitment in working to improve the health and nutritiona­l status of people in their respective communitie­s.

Cabotaje also called for continuing united action from all sectors of society in bringing a better health and nutrition status particular­ly in preventing malnutriti­on among the people especially the children and for the successful imple-

mentation of the Philippine Plan of Action on Nutrition (PPAN) 2017 – 2022.

The PPAN 2017 – 2022 she said is consistent with the Philippine Health Agenda and the Developmen­t Pillars of “Malasakit” (protective concern), “Pagbabago” (change or transforma­tion) and “Kaunlaran” (developmen­t). PIA – CAR
