City barangays to get CDRRMO technical assistance

BASED on the country’s experiences from the past years, disasters are becoming more complex, frequent and unpredictable in terms of occurrence, scope and magnitude.

In a bid to make every barangays in the city prepared for any disaster, Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMCO) to render technical assistance and capacity development trainings to all barangays in the drafting of all Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plans to formulate the city’s updated Local Disaster Risk Reduction and management (LDRMM) Plan and to review the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) plan during the budget preparation phase of each barangay and not as a pre-requisite for the review and approval of the barangay budgets by the sangguniang panlungsod.

The local chief executive stressed, in order to realize and formulate an improved disaster risk management plan and system in the city of Baguio and its component, it is very important to review all BDRRM Plans with the assistance of the CDRRM TWG in order to attain the objectives of RA 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRMM) Act of 2010 which recognizes the necessity of being prepared for the eventuality of disaster, natural or man-made so as to prevent or lessen its after effects.

Meanwhile, the City Council recently approved ordinance no. 62, series of 2017 authored by Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. requiring all teaching and non-teaching personnel of private and public schools in Baguio City to undergo disaster risk reduction trainings to empower them to handle and respond to emergency situations since they are catering to students.
