Car rentals warned against unscrupulous renters

- Jonathan Llanes

PRIVATE car rental services in the city were recently warned by the Baguio City Police Office of their future clients who allegedly may have dubious plans of vehicles rented to them.

The warning came after a complaint against businesswoman Moden Gaile Alyaon Bayangan, 29 years old and a resident of Irisan barangay who allegedly rented the vehicle of Donald Allan Rulloda but failed to return the vehicle on the agreed date after having it mortgaged in Manila.

BCPO Station 7 Commander Police Chief Inspector Marlon Ibasco said complainant Rulloda filed a complaint against the suspect for not complying with the signed terms and conditions of the agreement, aside from not returning the vehicle which the suspect admitted to being mortgaged.

Bayangan rented the registered Toyota Innova with a plate number AAV-3021 for four days starting October 18 under the agreement the suspect would return the vehicle after four days in the amount of P10,000, but until now, the vehicle was not yet returned.

During a meeting on October 28, the complainant once again asked the suspect to return the vehicle to no avail despite the suspect’s

assurance.

A second complainant against Bayangan by Alfonso Balingan Estolas of Upper Quarry was also filed saying the suspect rented three vehicles from him under the agreement she would do the necessary payment and return the vehicles.

Bayangan rented from Estolas a Toyota Fortuner which she rented for 25 days in the amount of P58,000 on September 22, a Chevrolet SUV for P35,000 on September 28 with P10,000 used as an advance payment, and on October 4, the suspect rented a Ford pickup for 10 days in the amount of P25,000 afte giving advance of P10,000.

Rulloda came to know the modus of Bayangan from his covehicle renters who informed him of a previous incident where the suspect rented the vehicle but mortgaged it in Manila without the vehicle renters knowledge.

Ibasco reiterated to the private car rental service providers to know the background of would be renters first before agreeing to any transactions to prevent being victims of such acts.
