Dad pushes for PWD employment
BAGUIO City Councilor Arthur Allad - iw is calling establishments to follow the Magna Caqrta for Persons with Disabilities.
In a resolution, Allad-iw is strongly urging all government agencies and private establishments to implement Republic Act 10524 known as the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability.
The Magna Carta assures five percent of all casual emergency and contractual positions in the Departments of Social Welfare and Development; Health; Education, Culture and Sports; and other government agencies, offices or corporations engaged in social development shall be reserved for disabled persons.
Allad - iw said Republic Act No. 10524 has expanded employment opportunities for PWD’s since 2013.
The city lawmaker said equal opportunity for employment is provided by the law
RA 10524 sates no person with disability should be denied access to opportunities for suitable employment. A qualified em- ployee with disability should be subject to the same terms and conditions of employment and the same compensation, privileges, benefits, fringe benefits, incentives or allowances as a qualified able bodied person.
The law provides at least one percent of all positions in all government agencies, offices or corporations shall be reserved for PWD’s.
Equal employment opportunity will be given to PWDs in the selection process based on qualification standards for an appointment to a position in government and requirements set by employers in private corporations.
They will also be subject to the same terms and conditions of employment, compensation, privileges, benefits, incentives, or allowances as an ablebodied person.
Allad – iw said the law aims to provide equal work opportunities to PWDs and at the same time encourages particiaption from the private sector.
“Integrating PWDs in the work force means rehabilitation, self-development, self-reliance and affirmation of PWDs as productive members of societ,” Allad-iw quipped.
