Intelligence network helps solve crime in Kabayan

- Jonathan Llanes

DESPITE having only 22 operatives in the Municipality of Kabayan in Benguet, the local police only registered 11 crime index cases from January to November this year.

Kabayan Chief of Police Inspector Francis Colas said the cases recorded by their office consisted of five physical injuries, two rapes, one robbery and three for theft.

Most of the physical injury cases recorded were related to alcohol induced activities despite the existing municipal ordinance which regulates the sale of liquor.

Colas added the rape suspects, are currently in prison and are not from the town.

"We continue to strengthen our intelligence networking and relations with the community to counter the lack of personnel we have at present which are deployed in the 13 barangays of the municipality," Colas explained.

On the war on drugs, Kabayan registered 85 drug surrenderers, most of whom were farmers and drivers during the implementation of Oplan Tokhang and Double Barrel with shabu as the choice of use coming from La Trinidad and Nueva Vizcaya.

"We continue to implement home visitations to these drug surrenderers to ensure there will be no resurgence of drugs in Kabayan through the help of the Barangay Drug Abuse Councils. Initially, seven barangays were listed as drug affected but to date, the municipality have been declared drug cleared," added Colas.
