First Sablan teachers’ day

-

TEACHERS’ day is being universally celebrated every 5th day of October yearly. Before giving my message, I like to let you know what great writers and thinkers say about teachers through the following quotations:

The mediocre teacher tells, the good teachers explains. The superior teacher demonstrates and the great teacher inspires. By William Arthur World

There are two kinds of teachers- the kind that fill you with so much quail shot that you can’t move, and that the kind that just give you a little prod behind and you jump to the skies. By Robert Frost

What is a teacher? I’ll tell you. It isn’t someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the students to give of her best in order to discover what the already knows. By Paul Coelho

The dream begins with the teachers who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called “truth”. By Dan Ruther

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit. By John Steinback

Most of us end up with no more than 5 or 6 people who remember us. Teachers have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives. By Andy Rooney

You can’t talk about quality education without talking about quality teachers. According to Solomon Ortiz “Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students. This is indeed true but we must understand that only quality teachers will make a lasting positive impact in the lives of their learners (pupils/ students) while poor teachers will make a lasting negative impact in the lives of their pupils/ students. That is why we must always try to improve our status as teachers. We need quality training and quality remunerations. Teaching is an art, a skill, a gift that needs to be developed and refined. Teachers I supposed ought to be the highest paid private or government workers because all other professions emerge because of teaching, but it is sad that some are not even paid at all. Teachers lack dedication and commitment because of poor remuneration. This is really the truth but this must not be forever. We need policies that will totally appreciate the value of teachers, improve their capability status.

To my fellow teachers, let us celebrate the first Sablan district teachers’ day this 15th of September, 2017 borrowing the words of Alice Welington Rollins “The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask him which he find it hard to answer”. HAPPY 1ST SABLAN DISTRICT TEACHERS’ DAY 2017 !!!! Jonathan G. Sadey
