Archery, swimming event up in BBEAL season 31

AS THE eliminatio­ns in basketball comes to a close, action shifts to swimming and archery in the Baguio – Benguet Educationa­l Athletic League season 31.

All eyes will be on the University of Baguio as it defends the archery crown for both men and women while its male tankers seek another repeat for the title.

Hoping to dislodge the Cardinals are the University of the Cordillera­s squad after placing second in both men and women’s side. Another team hoping to make its stride in the two - day event is the Saint Louis University Navigators which placed third last year in both contest.

The Cardinals is expected to parade Southeast Asian Games medalist Kareel Hongitan and Cordillera’s bemedalled athlete Loren Balaoing during the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.

Swimming will be a toss – up between UB and SLU as both schools topped the men’s and women’s contest respective­ly while Philippine Military Academy and UC hopes to improve their third and fourth place finish respective­ly.

The two event will be played at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

Other sports events lined up for the first phase of the largest collegiate league in North Luzon are badminton, baseball, chess, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis and wushu.

UC will defend their title in badminton, men's table tennis and wushu while UB seeks title retention in women's chess and women's table tennis, as Benguet State University seeks a repeat in baseball with SLU eyeing another top finish in sepak takraw and men’s chess. Roderick Osis
