Hundreds to join annual mining confab, Kalinga Rep. Mangoaong to grace occassion
THE PHILIPPINE Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) will again bring the a thousand stakeholders from the mining industry and other related fields in the annual national mining conference in Baguio City.
The 64th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) is set November 21 to 24 with the theme, “Responsible Mining … In the Hearts and Minds of Filipinos.”
PMSEA, the country’s forerunner in the promotion of occupational safety and health, sound environmental management and social responsibility in the minerals industry, will showcase best practices in aggressive promotion of its advocacy in responsible mining of mineral resources that contribute to the sustained growth and development of the country.
The activities of the 64th ANMSEC kicked off November 21 at 2:00 p.m. with the traditional tree planting and tree tending activity and PMSEA Immersion and Excursion, an interaction and sharing of knowledge with students about on the mining industry, at the PMSEA adopted park at the Botanical Garden.
PMSEA officials led by President Louie Sarmiento, other mine company heads and representatives with officials from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau will have a press conference at the Baguio Country Club at 4 p.m.
A mining exhibit participated in by mining companies and suppliers opens at 8:30AM on November 22 at the CAP John Hay Convention Center. This features the good practices of the mining companies, mining equipment and the latest mining technologies as well as the local produce from the mining communities’ livelihood projects and programs.
It will be followed by the 3rd PMSEA Students Congress sponsored by the Northern Cement Corporation and the 5th Community Relations Officers (COMREL) Conference.
A sports fest will also be held simultaneously at the Baguio Tennis Club, Baguio Country Club, and Puyat Sports. Winners will be awarded during the Mining Night at the Manor Hotel Garden in the evening.
On November 23 at the CAP John Hay Convention Center, the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) with the PMSEA will host the Mineral Industry Symposium with Kalinga Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang as the guest of honor and speaker.
He is expected to talk on the challenges of the mining industry in light of the recent developments under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte to raise the standard for safe and responsible mining in the country.
The MGB and the PMSEA will spearhead on November 24 the Mineral Industry activities which start with a parade from Upper Session Road to the Melvin Jones grounds for the Mine Safety Field Demonstration and Competition to be participated by miners from all over the country.
In the evening will be Testimonial Dinner and Awards Night on at the CAP John Hay Convention Center to culminate the mining confab. The PMSEA and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau will award the winners of the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award for Best Mining Practices in the Country, Best Mining Forest contest, safest mines awards, and best mines personalities.
Meanwhile, the Baguio City Council approved a resolution declaring November 21 to 24, 2017 as the 64th Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference Week in the city.
This also suspends the implementation of the city’s Number Coding Scheme on said dates to allow exclusively the PMSEA delegates and their families to enjoy their visit and stay in the city as they will contribute in enhancing the promotion of the booming local tourism industry. Redjie Melvic Cawis
