‘Unity workout’ set for smoke-free Baguio

-

instructors from various groups and clubs conducting workouts at Burnham Park threw their support behind the smoke-free Baguio campaign of the city government.

City Information Office chief Aileen Refuerzo on Tuesday said 11 instructors of tai-chi, zumba and tae bo committed their full support to the campaign and even agreed to give their services for free to mount a fitness event dedicated to the campaign.

Set at 6:00 a.m. on November 25, the event will bring the different fitness activities for a unity workout dubbed, “One Music, One Dance for a Smoke-Free Baguio.”

Refuerzo said the trainers did not hesitate when the SmokeFree Baguio Task Force chaired by Mayor Mauricio Domogan tapped them as part- ners in the campaign.

She said according to the fitness instructors, they know the ill effects of smoking, which contradicts the healthy lifestyle they are advocating through proper and regular workouts.

Refuerzo further relayed Zumba instructor Arman Lapastora’s statement, saying “it is also our own way of giving back to the city government for helping us sustain our fitness programs here at Burnham Park.”

The other instructors who manifested their support were Suzette Galvin, Janet Francisco and Grace Lozares of the Z-Trez group, Bernardo Sapico of Double Impact, Rommel Gubangco of 4Ever Young, Raquel Elsalen and Shirley Dizo of Fitness Force, Marvin Tulliong of MM Fitness Group and May Taminaya. The Tai-Chi Action group also agreed to transfer their workout venue on that day, usually held at the Rose Garden, to Juan Luna Drive, to show their support to the anti-smoking event.

The Baguio Health Services Office (HSO) together with the city government and Smoke Free Baguio Ordinance author, Councilor Joel Alangsab, unveiled the activities for the campaign which will focus on increasing the public’s awareness on the ill-effects of tobacco use.
