Lessons from losing

- JAYSON VICENTE

WHEN everything are fruits of training, sacrifice and hard work, when everything you do is for the ultimate goal of winning, victory is not always the reward that you get.

Sometimes we lose and we learn, and sometimes we win and learn again. But either way, the important thing is that we have learned a lesson.

Journey without lessons are just useless. In the world of sports, the journey is all about learning to succeed. The fortitude to cope up with the rigors of training, preparation and its sacrifices is so enormous that only those determined could push through, even victory is not an assurance of staying on top.

We may set the goal of winning but these lessons doesn’t stop from learning many things, things about being the best for a while,

things about being challenged at some point, things about what is next after reaching the top, things about how long would it last and most importantly things about yourself.

Maybe, the most important lesson to learn is not staying on top but keeping our foot on the ground even if you have journeyed and conquered the top. This will prepare you for that moment when someone seeking to reach the top has finally find a way to reach it, and that spot could possibly be challenged with one stepping down and go through the process again.

In this cycle, many fail to cope. The ignorance of one day going back from zero or the very neglect and unaccepting attitude to start again succumbs many to depression and frustration, thus losing their self-esteem, feeling sorry for their loss, not having fortitude to push from the fundamentals again, not accepting loss or defeat and not wanting to work for it again.

Nothing last forever as they say and it is true, not all greats stay great, not all champions stay champions, no one is actually undefeated. The one that makes someone great, champion and undefeated is the attitude of never giving up, for as long as you try is the stint that you have become great, champion and undefeated, because nobody is great, champion and undefeated if he quits.
