Gilas in good company after two wins – Caidic

WITH two games already in the bag, former Philippine team member Allan Caidic believes Gilas Pilipinas campaign in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers is off to a good start.

Caidic, who was in Baguio City during the weekend for an exhibition game said the composition of Gilas is a perfect fit for the tournament banking on its dribble drive offense.

“I believe the team is on the right direction and I see they have quite good shooters in the team like Matthew Right,” said Caidic, who was part of the Philippine Centennial squad which brought home the silver medal in the 1998 Asian Games.

Caidic added with the Gilas taking on power house Australia next year, there should be no pressure for the

national team who has already played other squads like Agentina, Purto Rico and Croatia during the 2014 World Cup in Spain.

“Huwag ng matakot sa Austalia, just stay focus and make their best preparation,” added Caidic, considered as of Asia’s best shooter during his prime.

Caidic added for the country to have better chance of winning in international competitions, Gilas should maintain a pool of players and craft a long term plan that will choose the composition of the team.

Four other former Barangay Ginebra Ginkings joined Caidic which heat up Baguio’s chilly weather in an exhibition match against pledging Up North Basketball League all star squad at the UC Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.

Marlou Aquino, Willie Miller, Jayvee Gayoso, Bal David and Noli Locsin were on hand to give hoops fans up north and spice up the league’s first championship matches in the different bracket.

“From time to time, we travel everywhere and this is our way of giving back to the fans who supported us when we were still playing,” added Caidic.

Aquino, known as The Skycraper, said the exhibition match is one of their way in supporting provincial leagues which can provide a exposure for the youth and hone their talent.

“Yung mga ganitong liga malaking tulong and hopefully mailayo ang mga bata sa distraction gaya ng drugs,” added Miller. Roderick Osis
