Cops to strictly enforce curfew law

- Jonathan Llanes

THE BAGUIO City Police Office will continue to implement City Ordinance 50 which provides curfew for minors in the city.

BCPO city director Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles explained local police have to abide by the existing city ordi- nance on curfew for minors to prevent them from the possible involvement in crimes.

Based on the City Councils ordinance earlier approved on first reading, and a proposed ordinance amending Ordinance No. 50, series of 2009, further amending Ordinance No. 271, series of 1995, otherwise known as

the Baguio City Curfew Ordinance.

"Based on the BCPO's records from January to November of this year, the number of minors that have been rescued number to 283 cases which have been forwarded to the City Social Welfare and Development Office," Saculles said.

The prevailing curfew for minors in the city is from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., pursuant to existing local ordinances. For purposes of the proposed amendatory ordinance, a child or children is defined as a person or persons below 16 years of age.

"We continue to monitor the areas where minors commonly frequent to ensure they comply with the existing curfew ordinance set by the city's council," Saculles added.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera region is continuously monitoring specific distribution areas of party drugs in Baguio City.

PDEA CAR Information Officer Atty. Joseph Calulut pointed out the need to constantly monitor these areas particularly club and bars which were allegedly reported to have been the areas of transaction by supposed illegal drug pushers.

This after a female dealer of ecstasy capsules was arrested past midnight in November in front of a hotel along Kisad Road, Baguio City by anti-narcotics agents from the PDEA.

The 18–year–old lady dealer who is a resident of Malate, Manila was cuffed when she sold the party drugs worth P50,000 to an undercover PDEA agent.
