Benguet reports reduced crime volume

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - The Benguet Police Provincial Office recorded a high reduction in focus crime volume at 50 percent for the period January to October this year compared to the volume of crime committed in the same period last year.

Deputy Provincial Director for Operations Police Supt. Louisito Meris presented the report during the fourth quarter Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting last week.

After Pres. Rodrigo Duterte ordered a halt on the war on drugs, the Philippine National Police now shifted to anti-criminalit­y drive focusing on preventing and solving seven crimes namely murder, homicide, theft, robbery, physical injuries, car and motorcycle theft, and rape.

The crime volume was down to 369 from the 739 recorded in January to October 2016 compared to the same period this year totaling 370 only. The average monthly crime rate also went down by 50 percent.

The top crimes comtheir were theft at 125, physical injuries at 102 and robbery at 75. There were 39 rape cases reported, 10 each for murder and carnapping of motorcycle, five for homicide, and four for carnapping motor vehicle.

La Trinidad registered the highest focus crime committed with a total of 175, followed by Tuba at 38 and Itogon at 34.

The crime clearance efficiency (CCE) improved by 18.72 percent from 50.20 percent from January to October last year to 68.92 percent for the same period this year. CCE is the percentage of cleared cases out of the total number of crime incidents handled by law enforcemen­t agencies.

On the other hand, the crime solution efficiency (CSE) improved by 15.08 percent from 37.35 percent from January to October last year to 52.43 percent for the same period this year.
