Bagtas carries Luisita Golf in 68th Fil-Am Golf seniors

FORMER pro Eddie Bagtas played his best round of golf by carding in 40 points to tow Luisita Golf and Country Club past Manila Southwoods in the seniors Fil Championsh­ip flight of the 68th Department of Tourism Fil-Am Invitation­al tournament.

Bagtas together with Rodel Mangulabna­n who carded a 38 drew support from the 34 of Jingy Tuazon and the 29 of Ondoy Mondilla to finish the fourth round with 141 and an over-all 507 for the over-all title in the San Miguel Corp. backed competitio­n at the Camp John Hay fairways.

Southwoods checked in with 122 which got a 36 from Raul Minoza and the 34 of Bong Sison as Judd Roy an Sang Jin Lin added 23.

Megafiber drew a 30 from Rolly Viray together with the pair of 26 from Rene Unson and Jose Mari Hechanova while Bing Bunye added 25 for a 107 and a total 437.

In the Am division over at Baguio Country Club, Luisita also notched the over-all title firing away 111 points in the penultimat­e round with Benjie Sumulong leading the charge as he scored 30 points while Raffy Garcia and Alan Alegre had 28 apiece as Dennis Caloy added 25 to complete the squads dominance in the largest annual gathering of amatuer par busters from all over the pacific for a four day total of 452.

“Mission accomplish­ed, we came back to the Fil-Am and even swept the top flights,” cried Luisita team captain Hechanova.

Hechanova and the Am squad nearly faltered when they moved to BCC on day three where they lost four points to CJH. But the players survived as “it brought out the experience of the players especially Benjie Sumulong and Raffy Garcia,” said Hechanova.

Camp John Hay failed to take advantage of the homecourt advantage as it salvaged second place with a four day total of 442 after checking in with 106.

Fred Puckett lead the local sqaud with a 31 while Monet Garcia and Jung Sek Jun had 29 and 26 while the 20 of Park Jong Won was good to count for the team.

Dugong Bughaw had a closing round of 90 for 400 and salvage third place nipping Team Baguio by two after an 88. Roderick Osis
