-

TWO Cordillerans who topped the recent Nurse Licensure Examination are willing to serve and give back to their communities.

Hannah Grace Pugong of Lagawe, Ifugao and Francis Mae Palangdosan of Bauko, Mountain Province, ranked top three and 10 respectively, in the 2017 November nursing board exam have expressed their willingness to serve their local communities as nurses.

Both Pugong and Palangdosan were also topnotchers of the 2014 Midwifery Board Examinations ranking first and second, respectively.

After their service to the different communities as midwives, they decided to continue their careers in the medical field and take up nursing at the University of the Philippines – School of Health Sciences – Aurora Campus.

Pugong said she is very much willing to go back to Ifugao to serve her “kababayans” as she had seen first-hand the medical needs of the

people.

She shared that she never really wanted to become a midwife or nurse since these professions are not a priority for employment in the country but she learned to appreciate being a community servant.

For Palangdosan she wants to continue her service to the community that really needs medical attention and services.

“Having been studying in a school that instilled awareness and love to serve in underserved and unserved community, we are more than willing to serve and be one of the community servants of the Nurse Deployment Programs of the government in our own respective provinces,” she said.

Both Pugong and Palangdosan said they draw their inspiration from their families, the community they serve and God.

Meanwhile, two schools in the region also are among the top performing schools in the country in the recent nursing board exam where 5,875 out of 12,869 examinees passed.

Saint Louis University ranked second with a 99.39 percent rating while Benguet State University is top three with 98.15 rating. SLU had 164 passers out of 165 examinees while BSU had 53 passers out of 54 takers.

University of Santo Tomas was ranked number one for having 100 percent rating with all of its 300 examinees passing.
