BenCab to design Creative Cities logo

NATIONAL Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto Cabrera (BenCab) has agreed to do the logo for the city in the United Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organizati­on Creative City Network.

The unveiling of the city logo for Unesco as well as the launching of activities for the Baguio Flower Festival is set on February 17.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the annual flower festival was used as part of the

applicatio­n of the city for the Unesco and it is apt to launch the event as part of the activities.

The chief executive said the festival will be in theme with the new role of the city in championin­g crafts and folk arts adding a proper exhibition of products and talent will be done with a pavilion allotted for solely for the creative sector at the Melvin Jones.

Councilor Elmer Datuin, who stands as chairman of the festival executive committee said the theme of Panagbenga 2018 is celebratio­n of culture and creativity, the aspect on creative cities is very much a part of Panagbenga.

Baguio is now among the 15 cities in the world recognized in the field of craft and folk arts. Department of Tourism Cordillera regional director Venus Tan said engagement with artists and the public is the aim in keeping with the theme of the CCN and make encounters experienti­al in nature for each one when going to industries of the arts and crafts in the city.

The city was included in the CCN network for local works of crafts and folk arts of the Cordillera­s inspired the various interplay of architectu­re, parks, textile, fabrics, furniture, and furnishing fashion accessorie­s, paintings, sculpture, homes and building designs in Baguio City Under Unesco all creative cities commit to develop and exchange innovative best practices to promote creative industries, strengthen participat­ion in cultural life, and integrate culture into sustainabl­e urban developmen­t policies.

“It will be incorporat­ed in most of the activities like street dancing were participan­ts will depict the folk arts and crafts creation of Baguio. It is the same in float parade. Also the session road in bloom will have a dedicated portion on creative products,” Datuin closed. Maria Elena Catajan
