Truck loses brakes, rams house in Asin

A DRIVER and his helper narrowly missed death after bumping to a concrete wall following the loss of the truck’s brake system at Asian road, in Baguio City.

Responding operatives of the Baguio Emergency Medical Service identified the driver as 31 – year – old Fernando Licos Opianga Jr. from Dipaculao, Aurora, and his helper, 24 – year - old Jerickson Garan Onagan from Del Monte, Bulacan.

Based on initial reports, the aluminum wing van bearing the plate number of RBB745 which came from Naguillian road was passing San Luis Village heading towards the Sta. Lucia area when it experience­d a mechanical problem on its braking system.

Upon losing its braking system, Opianga decided to ram the truck on the right side of the road hitting a steel gate and a concrete wall of a house owned by Alfredo Banares Reynosa.

The truck lost one of its tire upon impact while the steel gate, concrete fence, including the screen door, rear end of a van with plate no. XTF-138 parked at Reynosa residence and assorted flower pots were damaged.

Opianga sustained a sprain while Onagan was bruised and were both rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

Edgardo Pagatgatin, who represente­d the owner of the truck said they are just waiting for the owner of the house for the necessary payments incurred in the accident .

Pagatgatin explained the vehicle was being used as delivery truck for catsup and other products.

Both Opianga and Onagan were released from the hospital after being treated.
