It’s family eats

WHEN with family, eat. I had just read a book by Lance Gokongwei about his dad John, it also mentioned, eats. I do have the same with my dad, eats. It's all about the eats. Lolo Tatay was the same too.

It was all about having food with family. It's family eats. Traditions are about family gatherings and the eats prepared. Especially during this season it's all about family and what it eats.

With Lolo Tatay it was always nilagang baka every Sunday. With my mom, it is still the same every Sunday. My kids just love it. I just did my own version before New Year and it was gobbled up. We had it again a day after.

Decades back it was always noche buena with mom and dad with my siblings. Then it included our kids. The eats was always a part of how the night will end. Not the gifts.

During the day it was always at Lolo Tatay's place. Today it is now with our own families.

I spent mine this year away from mom and dad and my siblings. I had mine with my own. Only the second time I had missed it in my lifetime, the tradition that is.

December 24 saw me and my family away in Japan. Away from it all. I thought of having lunch in Mcdo. Dinner was more unique, Shakey's. I know what Juan might say and why?

Well I still miss tradition. Even away from the Philippine­s, we still made a way to still be close to it, eat I mean. We enjoyed very much the meals. The ambiance perfect. The taste of course a given, food fatigue it was anyway after a week of Japanese eats.

I will remember the many times I had with cousins in Shakey's as a child. Just the smell when near, was heavenly. This was in Skyworld many years ago. A door that opened to a staircase to a circus environmen­t of people having fun with a band playing.

It was always Garlic and Cheese. Well that was all we could afford then. Bunch of Lunch was beyond us. Thin crust it always was. We always got to share from it. Even just a slice each, we
