City destroys firecrackers

-

CLOSE to PP31,000 worth of various firecrackers confiscated during the Christmas and New Year’s celebration by the Baguio City Police Office were destroyed.

BCPO deputy chief for operations Chief Inspector Dexter Uminga said the illegal firecrackers were piccolo, five star, pla-

pla and others.

"As compared to last year, the seizure of legal and illegal firecrackers this year at the Public market, Melvin Jones and other barangays is very low, with an individual facing a case of illegally selling firecrackers," Uminga said.

The individual caught selling firecrackers was nabbed after being searched by police.

Uminga added the presence of the police have been a key factor as to why guerrilla tactics of selling firecrackers was unsuccessful.

"The efforts of our police is primarily to inform the public on the existing Executive Order 28 signed by President Duterte pertaining to the use, selling, and manufacturing of firecrackers, aside from the City's implementation of the total ban on firecrackers which have been a big help to us," the deputy chief stated.

The BCPO appealed to the public to strictly follow the laws pertaining to the use of illegal firecrackers to avert the negative effects of its use and the filing of cases against those caught using or selling firecrackers in the city. Jonathan Llanes
