-

THE REGIONAL Health Department in its final day of monitoring of firecracker related injuries in the region have recorded 25 individuals affected by the use of firecrackers.

DOH-Car Health Management Coordinator Clark Dizon reported From December 21,2017 to January 5,2018, the health department listed 25 injuries from the earlier 22 recorded injuries with the youngest listed at 6 years of age while the eldest was at 58 years of age, with an individual in Kalinga province injured while under the influence of liquor.

The record indicated 23 persons listed as males while 2 were females, with one admitted in the hospital. It also listed Picolo as the majority choice of use by those injured by firecrackers.

"From the 25 firecracker related injuries in the region, two came from Ifugao, five from Benguet, four from Kalinga, Apayao and Abra with five cases each, Baguio City with 3, and Mt. Province having a single case," Dizon said.

No deaths or amputation due to the use of firecrackers was recorded by the DOH.

DOH continues to urge the national government to come up with possible amendments to the law on the sale, use and manufacture of firecrackers and pyrotechnics to dissuade the people from using them.

Although Baguio City registered three injuries due to the use of firecrackers, it was very vocal in its implementation of the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan earlier lauded La Trinidad, Itogon and Sablan for planning to come up with their own version of an ordinance similar to the city which strictly regulates the sale, use and manufacture of firecrackers and pyrotechnics. Jonathan Llanes
