OWWA strengthens migrant desks
THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA have renewed their agreement with the local government units of Baguio City and Benguet Province for the establishment and retention of existing Migrant Desk Office for it to be able to reach out to Overseas Filipino Workers and respond to the needs of their immediate family members.
In a memorandum of agreement signing led by OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac and other local government officials, the move seeks to designate focal persons or migrant desk officers who shall coordinated Ate with OWWA. In the provisions and services of the agency, appropriate assistance to the OFW's and their families through its available programs and services among others.
"The objective of the migrant workers desk is to widen the welfare and protection of the OFW's and their families. This means having a help desk will give the OFW's specially those needing assistance abroad and their families easier access for help and assistance," said Cacdac.
Aside from Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Benguet Governor Cresencio Pacalso, the Mayors from Bokod, Itogon, Kabayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, Mankayan, Sablan, Tublay and La Trinidad were co-signatories to the MOA signing.
Cacdac explained "We will tap and train persons coming from these LGU 's for them to be equipped with the skills to engage any OFW's in distress
or any of the OFW's family needing help abroad,".
The Workers Welfare Administration is also responsible in forming Overseas Family Circles through the its Community Organization Program where the key sectors are the local government units.
Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan welcomed the renewal of agreement between OWWA and the local government units and expressed the importance for such government agency to continuously monitor and assist the OFW's and their families.
The OWWA administrator added "All told, this is an added Welfare and Protection service for our OFW's and their families,".
