Baguio cruises past foes in CARAA meet

BANGUED, ABRA -Baguio City continues to flex its muscle amassing 42 gold with 19 silver and six bronze medals to lord over-all standing in the Cordillera Administra­tive Region Athletic Associatio­n (CARAA).

The Summer Capital remains the favorite as it added another 19 gold medals on the second day of the weeklong sports competitio­n at different playing venues in Abra.

Arnis piled eight gold medals while athletics added three to lead the charge for Baguio City in the elementary level while nine more golds were added in the swimming competitio­n.

In the secondary level, arnis had seven while athletics added seven more as swimming netted nine gold medals.

alists in the elementary level include Job Tanguyab (100 meter dash and long jump) and Dennis Uryll Diosan (800 meter run).

In the secondary level, other gold medalists include Louie Agawa (800 meter run), Renz CJ Santos (110 meters hurdles), Thryxen Alfonso(100 meter hurdles), and Ira Mae Gali (800 meter run).

Benguet, after failing to notch a gold medal in the opening day surged with five gold medals including 17 silver and 17 bronze medals to claim the second spot.

Abra, which hosts the weeklong event for the first time in 17 years slid to third spot with four gold medals, eight silver, and 15 bronze.

Ifugao is currently at fourth place with 36-9, while Apayao is fifth with 3-5-7 while Kalinga had 3-4-3 as Mountain Province is currently at seventh place with 2-2-3.

Aside from the sports complex in Bangued, other playing venues include the Abra High School, Bangued East Elementary School, Divine Word College (DWC), Bangued Town Plaza, Camp Juan Villamor, and Abra Institute of Science and Technology (Asist).

On the other hand, Bangued West Central School, Mudeng Elementary School, Pidigan Central School, St. Mary High School, Sinalang Pilot Elementary School, Agtangao Elementary School, including Abra High School, ASIST, and DWC were identified as billeting schools.

In the indigenous games, Mt. Province composed of Rex Balicnog, Gabino Ramos, Eddieson Folig, John Ralph Baguingan, Sean Kennedy Gongcakic clocked in 47 seconds to win the gold in the kadang - kadang event (wooden stilts) besting Kalinga and Baguio City which took home the silver and bronze medal respective­ly.

Benguet's John Paul Aquino meanwhile opped the arm wrestling in the 55 below category while Jerahmeel Fagyan of Mountain Province settled for silver as Jomie Arce of Abra and Nico Faroden salavaged siver and bronze.

The 55 above category saw Romeo Junio Galate topping he event as Chenzyne Awilan of Mountain Province bagged silver with John Kenneth Saguengan of Abra and Johnson Balla of Baguio salvaged bronze medals each.
