Solution to traffic presented
IDEAS on traffic solutions were presented to help the city hurdle woes in congestion.
Teodoro Tan from the Traffic and Transportation Management Committee and Joseph Claridades, a private business analyst faced aldermen on ideas to help Baguio
manage traffic.
Tan advocated to create the Baguio City Parking and Traffic Office to oversee all concerns as well as management of traffic.
The proposed office will be in charge of implementation of traffic laws as well as management of traffic flow, assistance to executive and legislative branches as well as coordination with government agencies with regards to projects that will affect smooth flow of traffic.
Tan cited bottleneck areas as Mines View, Burnham, Mines View, Lourdes Grotto and Camp John Hay perennially congested during tourist peak.
The Claridades proposal dubbed "Improving Baguio's Traffic Flow, the Smart Way," delving on a holistic approach in traffic management presented in a three-step plan starting with; making roads smarter; moving people smarter and the creation of the city center bus line.
In the proposal, public transport will be made efficient, roads smarter, change motorists behavior. For the environment, to lessen air pollution, law enforcement more efficient with daily 3 hours free parking, the community a better lifestyle and pedestrians safer.
Claridades, a baguio boy said the proposal started 2016 and is in line with the ordinance of councilor Maylen Yaranon on smarter roads. Maria Elena Catajan
