Wally keen on pursuing MMA
WHEN her stint in the Philippine team ends, Divine Wally hopes to transition to mixed martial arts.
But she will have to get the approval of her mother first, who has been egging Wally to finish her college degree the soonest.
Wally has been vocal of transitioning to MMA just like her cousin Eduard Folayang, who was a former One Championship lightweight world titlist.
“I will have to finish my degree first and hopefully became an MMA fighter soon, that is if I get the nod of my mom,” said the Sadanga, Mt. Province native
Wally is currently enrolled at the University of the Cordilleras where she is an irregular third year Bachelor of Science in Education major in MAPEH.
“Although my dad wants me to pursue MMA, I’m still wishing to get my mom’s support,” added Wally.
Wally is the first Filipino to win a gold medal in 13th World Wushu Championship and the 8th Wushu Sanda Championship and a championship trophy in the 2017 Asian Cup Sanda Championship last year.
Aside from setting his sight on MMA, Wally said she is raring to see action in the upcoming Asian Games to be hosted by Indonesia.
But the third year education major is hopeful her weight category will be included
in the quadrennial meet slated August 18 to September 2.
Although she was able to compete in the 2014 meet, Wally said her 48 kilogram category was not included and opted to play in the 52 kilogram. For this year, Wally said she is optimistic the 48 kilograms will be included where she is comfortable.
“I fought in the 52kgs and placed only fifth,” Wally said. “Hopefully, this year isama nila yung weight class ko kasi sa 52 kgs, mas malalaki yung mga kalaban at hindi ko kaya yung bigat sa katawan.” Roderick Osis
