- Lauren Alimondo

A PHILIPPINE National Police officer still believes the youth remains the hope of the nation, especially in the fight against illegal drugs.

This was underscored by Police Chief Inspector Kimberly Esteban Molitas during the ‘Find out the truth against drugs’ forum last week.

Molitas, the chief public information officer and spokesperson of the National Capital Region said youth dicussions serves as beginning to spread empowerment to people and hope this will be pursued in Benguet and other provinces.

The Kibungan police officer has been advocating youth participation in the war against illegal drugs.

"I have this resolve in educating the young people because it is very alarming kapag nakikita mo iyong mga kabataan na naiinvolve and sila iyong victim. We want to make sure that they will be more aware of the consequences," said Molitas.

Close to 650 delegates from the 13 municipalities of Benguet convene during the one day youth forum.

Molitas also discussed the use of social media on illegal drugs while Dr. Ryan Guinaran discussed goal setting and confidence building as Police Chief Inspector Chely Casauay talked about the HIV and Francis Likigan Jr., information officer of Benguet spoke about the youth.

"Not they don't know the problem, they do not really experience it, and its different when you experience it, get it from the social media. Social

media is a little bit exaggerated and not factual so one of the things they should do is to be aware," said Molitas.

The police officer added the youth must be educated, be aware of the effects of drugs, be involve in the programs that would promote better camarederie among young people .

Molitas added the youth should spread what they have learn in the forum on the truth about drugs adding the war on illegal drugs has caused the decrease in crimes.

"Bumababa iyong mga data natin especially iyong crimes that involves the use illegal drugs, rape, robbery, theft , physical injury. It’s a reflection of the success on war on drugs," she said.

"We do not stop in cleansing our own ranks from anyone involve in any illegal activities not only in drugs but specifically any criminal activity where our police officers are involve. We also emphasize on the discipline of the police officers para naman we provide the service to the public that they need," Molitas added.
