THE CHURCH of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baguio launched the Family History booth for the first time in Session Road in Bloom in celebration of the city’s famous week-long Panagbenga Flower Festival. The Church welcomes everyone to come and visit the booth from 26 February to 4 March, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Elder Evan Schmutz, a member of the Church’s Philippine Area and wife Sister Cindy Schmutz thanked all of those who participated and created the wonderful event and expressed gratitude to the church leaders for supporting the Family History booth, which can help spread the good news of doing genealogy works.

He welcomed all the visitors to a celebration and gathering of families and further explains the purpose of doing family history in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to search family ancestor so the great words of the Prophet Malachi in the Old Testament will be fulfilled.

“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers,” said Schmutz. “By sharing that as we search out our ancestors, to find their names, to find stories about them, we are now linking together generations. He invites everyone to participate in this endeavor so that we may feel that we are doing the work of

God.” Schmutz also narrates the story of the first inhabitants of Baguio City and the great effort they have made in maintaining their traditions and their family history records, as narrated to him by some of the indigenous people who are members of the Church.

Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc., director Anthony de Leon thanked the Mormons in Baguio for opening the Family History booth to share the good works to the visitors of the Panagbenga Festival, which can reach up to 2 million visitors from all over the Philippines.

The Family History records of the Church is the largest depository of names in the world. Over four billion records are preserved from every nation. A mobile application has been launched by the church named Family Search that enables a faster and easier way to search, create and organize the family tree of every individual. The mobile app aims to preserve the culture, memories and photos of each family for future generations as well as to help family relationships become closer and stronger.
