Cops nab pushers in Cordillera

THREE suspected individual­s are now in jail after they were caught red handed in possession of illegal drug and firearms.

Cops arrested two suspects at Sitio Mal-o, Brgy. Bugnay, Tinglayan, Kalinga in the afternoon of March 1 after they were reported to be purchasing marijuana.

Prior to their arrest, the suspects identified as 24 year old Jeremy Miranda Ona, a resident of Gibraltar Road, and 19 year old Stephen Job Oyga Blanco, a resident of Balacbac Road; both from Baguio City, were both seen by an agent buying dried marijuana leaves at Barangay Proper Butbut, Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The suspects who later rode a public utility vehicle bound for Bontoc, Mt. Province were arrested by responding police which also led to the confiscati­on from them three pieces of dried marijuana leaves wrapped with brown packing tape weighing a total of 2.35 kilograms with a dangerous drug board value of P293,750.

In another operation, joint personnel of Lubuagan Municipal Police Station and the Kalinga Provincial Mobil Force arrested 25 – year – old Dongga-as Rex Gaspi, a resident of Barangay Antonio Canao Lubuagan in the evening of March 4.

The suspect together with his companion riding a motorcycle allegedly fired a gun and escaped the PNP checkpoint along the National road in the vicinity of Ayawon, Barangay Mabilong in Lubuagan.

A brief chase down ensued as Gaspi was collared while his companion evaded arrest.

Confiscate­d from his possession were three (3) plastic containing suspected shabu weighing five grams, one

Remington 1911 cal. 45 pistol, one magazine loaded with two ammunition­s, two spent shell for same cal. and cash amounting to P15,250.

All suspects are now facing charges for violation of RA 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehens­ive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002, while an additional case was filed against Gaspi for illegal possession of firearms.

Police Regional Office Cordillera Regional Director Chief Superinten­dent Edward Carranza have directed all police units in the region to double their efforts in going after sellers and buyers of illegal drugs intensifyi­ng their intelligen­ce operations to identify drug dealers, users and other personalit­ies who had records of involvemen­t in the illegal drug trade in the region.
