BUGUIAS- Known for its massive highland vegetable production, the municipality will hold its week long 2nd “Albubo” and Vegetable Festival to unveil its cultural heritage on March 511.

Fuelled by the leadership of Mayor Ruben Tinda-an, the townspeople will showcase its uniqueness as municipality and will enjoy an array of activities that will pamper iBuguias as well as the spectators.

One of the most awaited highlight of the event is the search for Mr. and Ms. Buguias to be participated by the chosen ladies and gentlemen from the 14 barangays of Buguias. Candidates representing their own barangay will showcase their talent and impress the judges in their casual interview on a prepageant set on March 4 at 1:00 PM and the coronation night will be on March 9 at 3 PM.

March 9, being declared as holiday for the people of Buguias, Elementary and Secondary schools will take part presenting their talents with their lively performances of ground demonstrations, folk dance and dance exchange.

Gracing the activity on March 10, Buguias Day as expected by the locals of Buguias are Cong. Ronald M. Cosalan and Gov. Crescencio C. Pacalso to witness the civic parade, presentation of the ground demo and dance exchange winners, cultural dance and presentation of the giant carrot cake.

In addition, the traditional “ukob” will also be revived in the festivity. People together with guests would eat their “watwat”, a large slice of boiled pork meat with rice in banana stalks and “digu” in silap, coconut shell while facing each other in a seemingly duck position.

Other activities of the town fiesta include Agri-Trade fair and Farmer’s Congress, Fun Run, Concert foracause, tourism promotions, and social and medical assistance programs.

Siged ay ugali, esten; Luta ay tinawid, pamaptengen; Mula et man-gaybeng is this year’s Albubo and Vegetable festival theme which may literally mean fun and happiness but for the igorot’s heart, “Albubo” means helping each other compassionately.

According to a study of Mr. Moresto Angyatao, “Albubo” is defined as the situation wherein the people of the community help each other to achieve an individual goal.

“Albubo”, the highland version of “bayanihan” is frequently observed in harvesting and planting seasons and even in times of inevitable disasters such as tropical storms. Because of this, Angyatao referred “Albubo” as a major key to success.

Even now, “Albubo” truly have played a major role in the success of Buguias so it is a must to give importance to it every year. As the saying goes, “Culture is what shapes an individual”. Anderson G. Dawigi
