Remote Abra barangay ready for electrification
TINEG, Abra - - Brgy. Caganayan in this remote town of Abra has been in the dark for years, but electricity is forthcoming with the ongoing mini-hydro project.
Tineg has been deprived of the basic infrastructure facilities like roads, telecommunication system and electricity. Some years ago, people in Tineg enjoyed the benefit of solar power, however it was not sustained. Their only form of communication was thru the radio.
Caganayan residents are optimistic that they will soon have power supply with the implementation of the mini-hydro project.
This is being undertaken by a conglomeration of the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) the Provincial Government of Abra (PGA), the local government of Tineg and the people of Brgy. Caganayan.
DOST-Abra Provincial Director Menandro Buenafe bared the mini-hydro project that started some years back is proceeding with the PGA procuring the turbine and the dynamo. The DOE provided the construction materials for the dam and the conveyance canal to the power house including the transmission lines from the power source to the barangay.
The DOST provided the technical job from site identification to the technical description, markings for the electrical posts, and the survey and installation of the transmission lines and the penstock. It likewise conducted the survey and packaged the project proposal for funding.
The LGU-Tineg is responsible for building the access road to the project site to facilitate the transport of the materials, including the mobilization of the local folks who pro- vide the labor.
Vice Mayor Edwin Crisologo is closely supervising the implementation to ensure that the project will be finished soon. PIA CAR
