Remote Abra barangay ready for electrific­ation

TINEG, Abra - - Brgy. Caganayan in this remote town of Abra has been in the dark for years, but electricit­y is forthcomin­g with the ongoing mini-hydro project.

Tineg has been deprived of the basic infrastruc­ture facilities like roads, telecommun­ication system and electricit­y. Some years ago, people in Tineg enjoyed the benefit of solar power, however it was not sustained. Their only form of communicat­ion was thru the radio.

Caganayan residents are optimistic that they will soon have power supply with the implementa­tion of the mini-hydro project.

This is being undertaken by a conglomera­tion of the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) the Provincial Government of Abra (PGA), the local government of Tineg and the people of Brgy. Caganayan.

DOST-Abra Provincial Director Menandro Buenafe bared the mini-hydro project that started some years back is proceeding with the PGA procuring the turbine and the dynamo. The DOE provided the constructi­on materials for the dam and the conveyance canal to the power house including the transmissi­on lines from the power source to the barangay.

The DOST provided the technical job from site identifica­tion to the technical descriptio­n, markings for the electrical posts, and the survey and installati­on of the transmissi­on lines and the penstock. It likewise conducted the survey and packaged the project proposal for funding.

The LGU-Tineg is responsibl­e for building the access road to the project site to facilitate the transport of the materials, including the mobilizati­on of the local folks who pro- vide the labor.

Vice Mayor Edwin Crisologo is closely supervisin­g the implementa­tion to ensure that the project will be finished soon. PIA CAR
