- DEADLY SHOOTING: HAVING AN ALTERNATIVE PLAN DEALING WITH TRAUMATIC EVENTS: When preparing the

DISASTER is something that is inevitable and can occur at the times that you least expect. Parents aren't always with their children and the students spend most of their time in school. Threats and disasters means preparing the students to deal with the worst case scenario without their parents.

Most of the schools policy known as the "shelter in place" would force the school to go into lockdown mode and students would be asked to shelter in a place. This probably will be deadly if a real shooting happens. The best advice would be to immediately get as far away from the danger as possible. student to deal with some threats that they could face at school, parents should talk to their child and help them develop a plan on how to deal with the certain threat such as community violence that occurs near the campus, and violent behavior from other students or possibly the teachers. That is why it is very vital to teach them basic self-defense, and to tell them that they have the right to defend themselves in the face of danger.

As parents, we try to prepare or kids for the many dangers they will face throughout their lives.

It’s not always easy talking to your child about these types of situations, but doing so is the only way to ensure their ability to handle threat. Teaching your child what to do in emergency situation can save their life and the lives of others. Yolanda E. Lipaen
