OCD conducts training for media
WITH ITS objective to widen the information dissemination process during calamities and disasters, the Office of the Civil Defense Cordillera and members of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club partnered with each other to make improvements in the dissemination process.
The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council views this partnership as a pro-active stance to promote a culture of preparedness or the new four-year DRRM Plan.
Romina Marasigan, spokesperson for the NDRRMC said it is important for the communities to know what the local government unit is doing particularly during disasters.
“Everyone has a responsibility to ensure our safety and to rise from the effects of a disaster," she said.
Anchored on the National DRRM Plan and framework and the United Nation’s Sendai Framework of Action 2015 to 2030, it will be the region’s guide on disaster risk reduction and management in all of the four DRRM thematic areas for the next four years.
Concepts on pre and post disaster management were discuss to identify assessment and analysis procedures the agency implements under the regional disaster response plan, and how media can come in to partner with the agency.
"We recognize the vital role media plays
during calamities and disasters particularly its reach to the community. Undertakings like this helps a lot since it is an opportunity for us to make the necessary steps for government and media to have a synchronized approach in the dissemination of inforaggregation mation," Marasigan added.
The RDRP developed by the OCD- CAR in coordination with the CRDRRMC outlines the processes and mechanism to facilitate a specific and coordinated response on different types of hazard or disaster emeraccessories gencies by the regional or at the local level departments and agencies.
BCBC president Jonathan Munar welcomed the partnership and assured the media's support in endeavors where media plays an important role.
"This is an opportune time for government agencies and the media to get together and thresh out mechanisms which will improve the existing process on how we can relay timely and important information to the public," Munar said.
