Be the best teacher for your student

-

I am a teacher. A teacher who always do what a teacher should do but as years go by, I learned that I must not only be just a teacher to my pupils but a best teacher to each of them that they can reminisce throughout their lives. How about you?

As learners come and go in my class, I teach them the best way I can but they also teach me lessons which I keep on pondering to this moment in time. I’d better not ignore these lessons because I believed these make me to become the best teacher for my students. These are:

-You should always have objectives. When you start a lesson, make your learners understand clearly what they will learn today. You should have clear objectives, as such plan will help learners concentrate and know what they are supposed to do during this class.

-Make your lessons significant to their lives. Try to connect the information you provide with some moments of your student’s life. Come up with an example, how this lesson can help them in the future so that they can always remember.

-Teach in a variety of ways. Use different strategies of teaching and makes use many different materials for your lesson as possible and everything that can be interesting to your learners.

-Befriend your pupils but don’t go too far. Help your pupils with their school work, listen to them, talk about their lives but always remember you are their teacher.

-See to it that your time should be wisely used for them. Pupils don’t want their teacher to talk about her personal life, how better she was in her younger days. Remember that your pupils come to learn on the subjects, so, don’t give them a reason to miss the class next time.

-Believe in them. If you see a pupil who is not interested in your lesson, or he doesn’t understand anything, don’t ignore. Believe in anyone, and don’t leave any student behind. Make remediation and make sure they’ve got in this time. It is very important for a student to feel the support of his teacher and know, that he will always help when it is needed.

-Be a good example for your students. You as a teacher must influence your students positively by your good endeavors.

-And more than these, be assertive. Learners nowadays have different problems/weaknesses. If you see that some of your students start to study worse, have no desire to do school works you give them, have low grades and just want to give up everything, do not be too in a hurry to argue and tell them they are bad. You can become like a parent to them. Support them, ask and try to find out what exactly is going on and push him to do better.

Try to do all of these and I am sure “You are the best teacher for your student if not in your department”. Catherine G. Domede
