IN A resolution, Councilor Leandro Yangot is urging all candidates for the Sangguniang Kabataan and the barangay elections to voluntarily take drug tests.

In the pursuit of the City’s programs against illegal drugs, substance abuse and drug addiction, the city is making progress in combating this narco problem, thanks to the active role of baranagy officials through the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council [BADAC] and the public.

Yangot said “The barangay officials with the assistance of their constituents should pursue intensified and unrelenting efforts to safeguard the well being of their community from the ill effects of dangerous drugs which affects the youth and future of their respective local communities.”

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency National Drug Information System (PDEANDIS) reported there are 289 barangay officials listed in the Presidents narco list which are composed of 143 barangay chairmen and 146 barangay kagawads. Out of these 289 barangay officials, 41 have been arrested, 5 died in legitimate operations, 27 homicides under investigation, 3 recorded natural deaths, 5 used other names or aliases and 11 politically motivated deaths.

It is imperative that the public be cooperative and pro active in the President’s crusade against illegal drugs so that those who desire to be elected as barangay officials must be drug free.
