PSA to update list of establishments

-

THE Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA) is set to conduct the Updating of the List of Establishments (ULE) in the Cordillera region.

PSA – Cordillera Regional Director Villafe Alibuyog said that the List of Establishments (LE) is a register of establishments operating all over the country whether registered or not in any regulatory body such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cooperative Development Authority and the Department of Trade and Industry. It contains identification data, classification data, and maintenance and linkage data for each establishment unit in the register.

Alibuyog said that the census is for the updating of the list of establishments with information on their characteristics and to know the distribution of establishments or enterprises. This is also to have information on business births and deaths and other business demographic indicators and have an idea on the list of emerging industries.

According to the PSA, the listing unit for the 2012 ULE is the establishment. An establishment is defined as an economic unit, which engages, under a single ownership or control, i.e. under a single entity; in one or predominantly one kind of economic activity at a single fixed physical location. Thus, stores, shops, factories, mining companies, electric plants, transport companies, radio stations, hotels, restaurants, banks, insurance companies, real estate development companies and the like are considered establishments.

PSA Benguet Chief Statistical Specialist Imelda Buyuccan explained that ambulant peddlers and hawkers and movable stall are not considered as establishments as they do not have a fixed business location.

Similarly, open stalls in shopping centers, malls and markets are not to be listed as they do not have permanency of business location. Individual professionals and technical workers or craftsmen who do not maintain fixed offices or shops are also excluded.

The PSA-CAR will deploy more than 40 statistical researchers and their team super-

visors who will conduct field interview in the different provinces in the Cordillera region from April 16 to end of June 2018.

Alibuyog called on the different local officials down to the barangay level to help in informing their constituents of the census to update the list of establishments in their locality. She also called on the public to cooperate and support the census to be done.

She assured that all information provided to PSA will be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation. She added that data shall be published only in the form of summaries or statistical tables in which no reference to an individual or corporation shall appear. PIA CAR
